SUSTAINABILITY AT FATBOY

At Fatboy we design timeless products made from excellent materials and with a focus on sustainable quality. Our big goal? We're striving for as much circularity as possible and we're getting a little better at it every day. This means that we design and make products that are easy to maintain and repair and which can be recycled. Whenever possible, our products are made from modular components that can be replaced or grow with you. We always challenge ourselves to create less waste and reduce our impact.

That makes us happy at Fatboy, for us this is Design with a smile.

Every day, our design team works together with our sustainability department on ways to make Fatboy more sustainable as a company and to make more sustainable products.

There are three ways we do this:

Enjoy your Fatboy items forever, you can easily maintain and repair them when broken. Our products are made of modular components that can easily be replaced or grow with you.

We make products to fall in love with and never let go. With strong constructions and materials that can take a beating. And if something does break, you can easily fix it yourself.

We also design as modularly as possible, so that you can adjust your furniture to suit your needs. Enlarge, reduce, a new cover or new filling: in the future, you should be able to give every Fatboy product an eternal life.

Clever choices are made for our products; easy to take apart and to recycle. And made of durable and more sustainable materials.

Step by step, we are switching to the use of more sustainable materials, always choosing the most durable option. Besides, we use materials that are easy to separate and recycle. We design our products in such a way that you can easily take them apart. Without glue or other adhesives we make sure the parts are not permanently connected to each other.

We ask ourselves: 'how can Fatboy reduce its impact and footprint?' This is based on insights into our footprint and gathering as much knowledge as possible about the lifespan and impact of the materials we use. We then work with our suppliers and at our own locations to minimize waste and reduce energy consumption.

We also produce what can be produced close to home in the Netherlands, this includes the contents of our bean bags, the large lampshades on our Edison the Grand, the Giant, and the Medium as well as a large part of our packaging. What has to come from far away travels by boat and is flat packed. In addition, we're always finding new ways to reduce packaging.

We make smart choices about what to do with our residual materials, for example that's how our new collection of bags, which you'll find here, was created.

At Fatboy we don't want to pretend to be at the forefront, but by weaving sustainability into our DNA, every day we're taking another step forward and in no time we'll be able to say: You've come a long way, baby!
